Environmental Management Policy

This policy applies to Energy & Environment Solutions Pty Ltd (EES) and covers our two leased offices in Melbourne and Sydney.

At EES, we believe our corporate responsibilities include minimising resource use and protecting the environment over the long-term while delivering quality energy and resource conservation solutions.

We recognise that all our activities and services can impact the environment.  We actively seek to minimise this impact when providing services to clients and also in our conduct of our daily operations. Considering the importance of environmental sustainability and the long-term competitiveness of Australian industry, EES is committed to the pursuit of environmental and social sustainability in the conduct of our energy efficiency services.

Our Premises

We recognise that the activities required to deliver our services have both a direct and indirect impact on the environment. To reduce that impact and improve our sustainability performance, EES will:

  • Provide our customers with cost-effective ways to reduce their energy and resource consumption;

  • Comply with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations;

  • Determine and report our greenhouse gas emissions inventory on an annual basis;

  • Eliminate avoidable business travel;

  • Install appropriate energy and water conservation measures;

  • Maintain an employee engagement program to raise awareness of our environmental impact and embed environmental responsibility throughout the organisation;

  • Minimise the consumption of energy, water and other resources;

  • Monitor and assess our environmental risks;

  • Educate staff, clients and peers on emerging environmental opportunities and how to reduce their own environmental impacts;

  • Strive to continually improve our environmental performance by setting measurable trees, monitoring annual progress and integrating sustainability into our future corporate strategies;

  • Minimise the generation of waste through recycling and reuse whenever possible;

  • Use recycled materials in our office, including printing on recycled paper, and buy stationery made from recycled materials;

Our Operations

EES understands that the way we do business has an indirect impact on the environment. To reduce that impact and improve our sustainability performance, EES will:

  • Strive to be Carbon Neutral by, for example:

    • operating a fleet of small and fuel-efficient vehicles, and

    • offsetting the CO2 generated by our travel on an annual basis;

  • Continue to support our environmental charity partners to the greatest extent possible;

  • Encourage our clients to make positive environmental changes through support from our sustainability and climate change practice and communication of our own experiences;

  • Work with clients, prospects, and industry groups to promote sustainable energy and resource use;

  • Set an example of leadership in the field of energy and resource management;

  • Encourage the government to draft sustainable policies and legislation by providing advice or submissions in environmental areas of expertise.

Our Project Sites

For every project we undertake, the EES Project Manager will liaise with the site/building manager and relevant contractors to establish effective recycling systems for:

  • Fluorescent tubes

  • Aluminium louvres

  • Plastics other than containers, including plastic film and packaging

  • Electronics

  • Paper (all paper, including white, coloured, newspaper, magazines, confidential paper)

  • Cardboard

  • Comingled materials, including glass and plastic containers, aluminium and steel cans, and cartons.

These items may also be diverted from landfill and recycled at some sites.

Where possible, bins of an appropriate size will be set up on-site and clearly marked with the name of the materials which can be disposed of them. All contractors will be instructed in the scope of works provided by EES as to what to recycle, how to implement recycling and where to sort recyclable items. The EES Project Manager will organise the removal of the recycling.

Environmental Management System

Our Environmental Management System (EMS) is the foundation document of EES’ environmental policy. The EMS allows us to pursue our environmental objectives in a systematic, measurable and robust manner.

We have appointed Elaine Golden as Sustainability Coordinator under the EMS, denoting responsibility for:

  • Monitoring the company’s environmental sustainability performance;

  • Ensuring employee adherence this Environmental Management Policy;

  • Recording and implementing environmental sustainability measures;

  • Identifying environmental risks and proposing management solutions to minimise any apparent risks; and

  • Annually reviewing and, as necessary, updating the EMS and Environmental Management Policy.

Each year we will adapt our approach to best address any changes in our organisation, within our client base and in the economy, to ensure that environmental sustainability remains an integrated part of our corporate strategy.
